First gathering of BMX World Championship organizing committee

The Organizing Committee for the BMX World Championship to be held in Baku on June 5-9, 2018 in accordance with the order of President Ilham Aliyev gathered today for the first time in Baku city.

In his opening speech on the order by the head of state the chairman of the Organizing Committee the 1st vice Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Mr. Yaqub Eyubov informed the committee that the decision by the International Cyclists Union (UCI) to hold the BMX Racing World Championship on June 5-9, 2018 in Baku city was still another achievement of sports policy of Azerbaijan and a sign of appreciation of our accomplishments in sports and physical culture by international federations.

As the world championship next year will be another significant event in the country’s sports life, Mr. Yaqub Eyubov stressed the importance of high-level and full implemention of the Action Plan designed to ensure that the visiting guests leave the country with good impressions. He also emphasized that setting up of an enlarged Organizing Committee by President Ilham Aliyev to ensure that the BMX World Championship is carried out with dignity is an evident example of attention devoted to and concern shown for by the head of state to the develpment of sports in whole, as well as an indication of importance attached to the event.

After that, the 1st vice-president of Azerbaijan Cycling Federation Mr. Sahib Alakbarov made a thorough presentation to inform the committee on the work done in connection with preparation to the world championship and displayed a video clip reflecting the work. It was noted that as of today 30 countries have already applied to participate at the championship and the number of applications keeps growing. It was mentioned that the test event held in October this year after reconstruction of the BMX track, which will host the prestigious competition, received high appraisal by official representatives of the International Cyclists Union.

At the end the chairman of the Organizing Committee stressed the importance of mobilizing all efforts, charged heads of enlisted agencies with assignments and gave his recomendations.
