Specialized Olympic Reserve Children and Youth Sports School No. 7

The Specialized Olympic Reserve Children and Youth Sports School No. 7 (7İOEUGİM), which currently operates under the “Education” Republican Sports Center, was established in 1969. Athletes specializing in cycling train at the school’s cycling base located in the Ahmadli settlement, as well as at the Republican Velodrome and on road routes.

Achievements of the School’s Athletes

The school offers training in cycling, boxing, fencing, swimming, volleyball, and basketball. Its graduates have repeatedly become European, World, and Olympic champions. Two graduates of 7İOEUGİM — Boris Koretski and Ilgar Mammadov — won Olympic gold medals in fencing at the Seoul Olympic Games. Salman Alizada became the winner of the European and World Boxing Championships in 2008.

Among the school’s cycling graduates, Elgun Alizada and Nijat Niftaliyev took second place at an international cycling tournament held in Konya, Türkiye.

In addition, Nijat Niftaliyev won a bronze medal in the group race at the 48th European Tour held in the Netherlands in 2012.

At the Open Russian Championship held in Anapa, Russia, in 2012, Elgun Alizada and Nijat Niftaliyev finished in 5th and 6th places, respectively.

In 2012, at a tournament organized in Chișinău in honor of the President of Moldova, Elgun Alizada crossed the finish line in 4th place. Furthermore, at the 2014 European Championships, Elgun Alizada finished 11th in the group race, marking the highest achievement in the history of Azerbaijani cycling to date.

School Management

The Director of the school is Neman Gasimov.

For many years, Abulfaz Mammadov served as the Head Coach of both 7İOEUGİM and the national team. He was awarded an Honorary Diploma by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev. The experienced specialist passed away in November 2021 after a long and serious illness.

The school administration invites boys and girls starting from the age of 10 to join the bicycle sports school to engage in this sport.
