A cycling rally dedicated to May 28 – Independence Day was organized

A cycling tour dedicated to May 28 – Independence Day was organized within the framework of the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty” by the joint efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, and the “Regional Development” Public Union.
More than 300 cyclists and para-cyclists participating in the event set off from Velopark, accompanied by the “Victory Road” and “Busamania” motorcycle groups carrying the tricolor flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan. They followed the route Bibiheybət Mosque – Water Sports Palace – State Flag Square. At the end of the event, certificates were presented to the active participants of the cycling tour.
In an interview with the press, Sahib Ələkbərov, the First Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, stated that the federation’s main goal at present is not only to develop cycling as a sport but also to promote its wider use as a means of transportation. According to Ələkbərov, all the necessary infrastructure exists in the country, and such events make a significant contribution to public awareness and promotion.
The First Vice-President of the federation also added that the newly elected leadership of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation is currently negotiating to have the “Tour d’Azerbaijan,” a race that has gained significant recognition in the international cycling community, reinstated on the calendar of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
