28 May – A cycling event dedicated to Independence Day held

A cycling event dedicated to May 28 – the Independence Day was organized jointly by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, and the “Regional Development” Public Union within the framework of the “Year of Constitution and Sovereignty.”
More than 300 cyclists and para-cyclists participated in the event. Accompanied by the “Zafar Yolu” and “Busamania” motorcycle groups carrying the tricolor flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan, they started from Velopark and followed the route: Bibiheybat Mosque – Water Sports Palace – National Flag Square. At the end of the event, certificates were presented to the active participants of the cycling ride.
In an interview with media representatives, Sahib Alakbarov, the First Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, stated that the Federation’s main goal is not only to develop cycling as a sport but also to support its widespread use as a means of transportation. According to Sahib Alakbarov, all the necessary infrastructure for this already exists in the country, and such events make a significant contribution to raising public awareness.
The First Vice-President also added that the newly elected leadership of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation is currently holding negotiations to restore the “Tour d’Azerbaïdjan” race – which has gained great popularity in the global cycling community – in the calendar of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
