The fourth regular meeting of the Executive Committee of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation has taken place. Opening the event with an introductory speech, Federation President Zaur Akhundov familiarized the participants with the meeting's agenda.
The Federation President stated that preparations for the "Baku-Khankendi" Azerbaijan Cycling Race, scheduled for May 10-14, have entered the decisive stage. He then gave the floor to Sahib Alakbarov, the Chairman of the race's Organizing Committee and First Vice-President of the Federation, for a detailed report on the work carried out to date.
Sahib Alakbarov reported that 25 teams have confirmed their participation in the "Baku-Khankendi" Azerbaijan Cycling Race. These include 1 World Tour team, 7 Pro-Continental teams, 16 Continental teams, and the Azerbaijan national team. In addition, the official website (www.bakukhankendi.az), which contains all information about the cycling race, has been prepared and made available to the public.
As part of the preparations, the infrastructure along the routes was re-inspected from February 18-24 of this year by the race's Technical Director Roland Hofer and Safety Manager Andre Neumann, together with local specialists. Sahib Alakbarov particularly emphasized the significance of the "Baku-Khankendi" Azerbaijan Cycling Race — which will be broadcast live on all stages by the Eurosport channel — in promoting our country's tourism and sports potential, showcasing the experience gained in organizing international sports events, and conveying to the global community the large-scale reconstruction and development processes underway in the territories liberated from occupation.
Federation Executive Vice-President Fikrat Huseynov provided information on the work done and events held since the previous Executive Committee meeting. He reported that, within the framework of cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Education and the Azerbaijan Trade Unions Sports Organizations Association, cycling sections have been opened and are actively operating in 15 regions of the republic. With the support of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, bicycles have been gifted to students at universities in Lankaran, Ganja, and Mingachevir, as well as to children of martyrs and veterans in Ganja, and this process will continue. In addition, participants were informed about the work and events planned for March.
Other matters related to the Federation's activities were also discussed at the meeting, and relevant decisions were made.
