The Organizing Committee has held its final meeting ahead of the “Baku-Khankendi” Azerbaijan Cycling Race, scheduled to take place from May 10 to 14. During the session at the Republican Velodrome, officials conducted an in-depth review of the final preparations for the upcoming event.
Sahib Alakbarov, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee for this UCI 2.1 category race and First Vice-President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation (AzVIF), stated that all necessary measures have been taken to ensure the success of this prestigious competition. He confirmed with confidence that the preparations for the international sporting event are now fully complete, noting that several teams have already arrived in Baku to continue their training in the capital.
Roland Hofer of Switzerland, the Technical Director of the race and Honorary Secretary General of the European Cycling Union (UEC), described the return of major cycling competitions to Azerbaijan as a significant milestone. He praised the high level of organizational work, noting that security, logistics, medical services, and technical support along the route have all been arranged in strict accordance with international standards. Hofer emphasized that the Baku-Khankendi route is particularly important both from a sporting perspective and for its ability to showcase the natural beauty of Azerbaijan. He added that the diverse terrain of the different stages would significantly increase the competitive intensity for the participants.
The “Baku-Khankendi” Azerbaijan Cycling Race will officially start on May 10, featuring 24 teams representing 20 different countries. Over the course of the five-day event, the race aims to contribute to the development of cycling in Azerbaijan, further enhance the country’s reputation in the international sporting arena, and promote the sports tourism potential of the region.
