A cycling race was organized in Baku on the occasion of June 3 – World Bicycle Day. Jointly organized by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Baku City Executive Power, the Seaside Boulevard Department, the Azerbaijan Ground Transport Agency (AYNA), the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation, and the "APAR" company, the event aimed to promote bicycle transport, encourage a healthy lifestyle, and increase attention to environmental protection.
Professional and amateur cyclists participating in the race, which started and finished at the State Flag Square, rode along the territory of the Seaside Boulevard.
As part of the event, participants also familiarized themselves with promotional materials and informational products sent by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) to the national federations of countries worldwide. This initiative served to raise public awareness about the benefits of cycling as a sport and the use of bicycles as a daily means of transportation.
During the cycling race, it was once again emphasized that the bicycle is an environmentally friendly, accessible, and sustainable means of transport. Noting the importance of developing bicycle infrastructure in urban environments, the event participants stated that this mode of transport makes a significant contribution both to protecting the environment and to shaping a healthy lifestyle for citizens.
It is noteworthy that the United Nations General Assembly declared June 3 as World Bicycle Day in a resolution adopted in April 2018. Today, this day is celebrated in various countries around the world with diverse events aimed at promoting bicycle culture, improving road safety, and supporting sustainable transport solutions.
