The Federation Cup cycling competition was held on 25 July in Gazakh, Azerbaijan's "Sports Capital", jointly organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan, the Gazakh District Executive Authority, and the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation.
The opening ceremony began with the National Anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan. This was followed by a minute of silence in memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for Azerbaijan's territorial integrity.
Speaking at the ceremony, Head of the Gazakh District Executive Authority Rajab Babashov noted that since Gazakh was designated the country's "Sports Capital," numerous sporting events have been organized throughout the year and new sports facilities have been commissioned. He emphasized that competitions of this kind make a significant contribution to increasing public interest in sports across the region and expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation for organizing the city's first-ever cycling competition.
Executive Vice President of the Azerbaijan Cycling Federation Fikrat Huseynov thanked the Gazakh District Executive Authority for its support and excellent organization of the event. He noted that, alongside athletes from neighboring districts, cyclists representing Gazakh also took part in the Federation Cup, which would positively contribute to the development of cycling in the region and encourage greater interest in the sport among young people.
The competition, held on the central streets of Gazakh, attracted a large number of spectators. More than 150 male and female cyclists representing cycling clubs from various regions of the country competed in a 5 km mass-start race. As part of the event program, a special race was also organized for young amateur cyclists from the Gazakh district. Winners and prize-winners in six categories were awarded medals, diplomas, and trophies.
